Team SMH Turns Out in Force to Help Community Causes

Employees from around the health system and their family and friends helped Sarasota Memorial’s community partners at dozens of events and programs in recent weeks. Here’s a sampling of the many ways that staff contributed their time, talents, funds and needed items.

Above: Dozens of staff participated in the American Heart Association Heart Walk in November, joining the community in raising lifesaving funds for heart and stroke patients.

Above left and right: Team SMH recently offered a hand at the annual “Bowls of Hope” fund-raising event for the All Faiths Food Bank, and provided a delicious soup for the crowd.

Florida State University/SMH Emergency Medicine residents and faculty recently volunteered at the Senior Friendship Centers to help decorate the interior for the holiday season and do landscaping. At least once a year, this group spends time giving back to the community as part of their training to be the next generation of Emergency Medicine Physicians!

Our Public Safety team donated and delivered a large tree to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, helping to kick off the agency’s Annual Holiday Toy Drive.

Staff and leaders from SMH-Venice, below, participated in the 3rd Annual Firehouse Santa Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Venice EMS & Fire Rescue crew.

Staff, friends and family made a strong showing at two longstanding community events, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, pictured below, and at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Sarasota-Manatee, bottom.

Below: Departments and staff continued their long tradition of generously donating gifts and supplies to holiday drives organized by Mothers Helping Mothers and Senior Friendship Centers. Team SMH also adopted a record 45 families through Children First!
