SMH’s Innovative CNA Training Program Honored by Sarasota Chamber
Sarasota Memorial’s Certified Nursing Assistant training program was recently honored as one of three finalists in the Workforce Development and Innovation category of the Sarasota Chamber’s Frank G. Berlin Small Business Awards. The name is deceiving, as several large businesses were recognized at the recent event.
The Chamber received more than 115 applications for nine awards categories, so SMH’s recognition as a finalist was a great honor.
The CNA training program, which is sponsored by CareerEdge grant funds, has completed 18 student cohorts with more than 160 participants. SMH identifies entry-level employees to participate in the program, which provides training to help staff members pursue opportunities for professional development. Previous cohorts have included participants who ascended the career ladder, advancing from Patient Safety Attendants to CNAs, Patient Care Technicians and ultimately, RN or BSN positions.
Sarasota Memorial’s innovative and successful CNA training program was named a finalist in the Sarasota Chamber’s recent business awards. Associate Chief Nursing Officer Lisa Baumgardner, left, and Clinical Educator Laura Horner accepted the recognition.
