SMH-Venice Celebrates Exceptional First Year and Chamber Award

The SMH-Venice Campus had a banner month in November: The hospital celebrated its first anniversary and won the “New Business of the Year” award from the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce.

Since it opened in November of 2021, the 110-bed hospital has played an essential role in the south county community, helping to meet the enormous demand for care in the region.

SMH-Venice has served a large and growing number of patients since its first week of service, with volumes exceeding projections. See key indicators below compared to expectations below for Fiscal Year 2022.

Construction is already under way on a new 102-bed patient care tower and the expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Care Center and operating rooms.

In September, the campus stepped up respond to the abrupt closure of ShorePoint Venice Hospital, followed by Hurricane Ian and a large influx of patients following the storm.

This Fall, hospital also celebrated the birth of its 200th baby and its first set of twins.

The Venice team is also working continuously to expand its high-quality care: Over the past year, the hospital has earned Joint Commission Accreditation, Primary Stroke Center Certification, Level 1 Acute Cardiovascular Program Designation and American College of Radiology Accreditation for Mammography, MRI, CT, Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine.

With all of these accomplishments in just one year, it’s no surprise the hospital was singled out by the Venice Chamber as an outstanding newcomer to the community. Congratulations and thank you to the team!
