Laboratory Recognizes Exceptional Staff, Accomplishments

Sarasota Memorial’s Laboratory staff had a great deal to celebrate during last month’s National Medical Laboratory Week.

The Laboratory at SMH-Venice recently earned accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), following a successful initial licensure survey. The Venice accreditation process was led by Venice Laboratory Director Jonathon Parinello with close collaboration and teamwork from the SMH Laboratory. In addition, the Laboratory at the North Port ER and Health Care Center recently earned two-year re-accreditation from CAP.

Laboratories that earn CAP accreditation demonstrate numerous policies and procedures that help ensure ensure quality testing and patient safety.

The Laboratory also presented its annual “Hazel Award.” Named in honor of the late Hazel Poad, a beloved former member of the Laboratory who passed away in 2000 from breast cancer, the award has been given for more than 20 years to an outstanding team member.
This year’s winner was Norma Limehouse, a customer service representative with 37 years of service at SMH!

Award-winner Norma Limehouse is congratulated by Laboratory Outreach Manager Ken Trotter

Described by her team as professional, pleasant, caring, gracious, helpful, knowledgeable, kind and friendly, Norma also:

• projects a positive image for SMH and the Laboratory.

• is always willing to help others and has positive words for her co-workers.

• has excellent customer service skills and great relationship with physician offices.

Congratulations and thank you, Norma!
